Messy Games is one of seven books within the Youth Group Games line. Getting out of the norm and adding a little mess to your recreation time always adds a lot of fun to your service, retreat, or event. Some of these games will stink, and others are sure to make your group go bananas! Utilizing his decades of experience, J. Your students will learn the rules of this game in a minute but want to play for hours. Use this game for full-class engagement or have just as much fun watching The Chosen One. 

Have your student(s) stand facing away from the screen or blindfolded. Their task is to follow the audible cues to either raise or lower a limb. Essentially, the child has turned into a human BopIt.

Click the spacebar and the character on the screen either raises or lowers their arms and legs in this order: Right Arm, Left Arm, Right Leg, Left Leg (repeat). There's a raise and lower sound effect that plays with each move. The student simply needs to listen for that cue and either raise or lower an arm/leg in the correct order to match the character on the screen. It's way harder than it sounds. Once your students become pros, you can add more players! Hitting the spacebar will cycle through each player before returning to the first!

The solar eclipse of 2024 was all over the news… and so were several products that were themed to the event. Challenge your group to separate the actual products from the made-up ones in this wild game. In each round, players will be presented with odd options from the mouthwatering to the downright bizarre. Players vote by holding up a thumbs up if they think the product is true or a thumbs down if they believe it's false. After all the votes are in, reveal the truth behind the product - was it really eclipsed or just a figment of someone's imagination? So gather your students, prepare to be eclipsed, and let the celestial hilarity begin!

It’s either your favorite carb, or you run from it and all its gluten. Either way, bread is bread – so can you tell the difference between close-ups of it and other things?

You will be given a color. Go head-to-head naming something that is primarily that color. If you freeze and can't say one in 3 seconds or if you repeat an answer already given, your opponent scores a point.

Simply answer the questions to the best of your ability and let's see who can get closest to the actual answer.

Each question will give you an answer that is WRONG. You will have to guess if the correct answer is MORE or LESS. Give a Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down to indicate which one you think is the correct answer.

How fast can your students think on their feet when presented with random topics? Players will be given a category and they have to name as many things associated to that category in 10 seconds. Rotate players in per category, or do it as a back-and-forth face off!

How well do your students know their favorite celebrities? Have them try to spot the one lie hidden among two truths, whether by playing it like a gameshow faceoff, or “guys vs girls” by asking for someone from the room to stand up and shout out an answer when you call on them!

How well does your group remember the events of 2023? Maybe they do, or maybe they can just guess really well through this multiple choice trivia game that covers everything from pop culture and business headlines to absurd stories and odd events!

Looking for a game to help your group get to know each other? This is perfect! Put each question on the screen, one at a time, and then have your students move to one side of the room or the other (or raise a left or right hand, if you group is large) to indicate if they “DID” or “DIDN’T” do it. The last slide ends on a question about a Bible verse, and you can also bring some up on the microphone to share one they have memorized.

For each question, you will answer "Left" or "Right" by holding up your arm to show which option you think is the correct answer. If you're right, stay standing. If you're wrong, sit down. If you cheat... God sees you.

It's a simple Halloween true or false game. Let's go!

One of the oldest tricks in the book, the three coconuts scam. This game is very versatile. You can use it as a quick game for fun, or you can use it to torture your students. It's really up to you. The best part is there's no setup!

On the screen, three coconut shells are lifted, revealing two kiwi fruits and a kiwi bird. Tell your students to keep an eye on the kiwi bird as you shuffle the coconuts. Have your students guess which coconut is hiding the kiwi bird. You can change the speed of the shuffling. Also, you can cheat, placing the kiwi bird under any/all of the coconuts. Very easy. Very fun. Potentially, emotionally damaging.
