Associate Pastor of Next Generation Ministries
(“Next Generation” is intended to mean infants through high-school-aged children)


Principal Function:

The Associate Pastor of Next Generation Ministries (APNGM) is a member of the senior leadership team of Central Baptist Church. As such, he supports the vision and mission of CBC to Explore, Engage, Equip and Empower people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Specifically, he will be responsible for working with the directors of the Parents Day Out (PDO) program, the preschool ministry, and the kindergarten through 12th Grade ministries to develop and implement a comprehensive plan for Christian education and discipleship for children and youth of all ages.


Qualifications for the Position:

  • Must have a calling from the Lord to full-time vocational ministry with a passion for children and youth of all ages.
  • Is able to work with the leadership ministry teams to plan, organize, and supervise ministry programs, demonstrating strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Has demonstrated leadership skills in past similar positions.
  • Meets the biblical qualifications for pastoral ministry found in 1 Tim. 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9
  • Preferred at least 3-5 years’ experience in a similar ministry-related role.
  • Must be ordained by a Southern Baptist Church of like faith and practice or receptive to and qualified for ordination by CBC.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Plans, builds, promotes, and supervises a balanced ministry program through Connect Groups (Sunday School), discipleship training, fellowships, retreats, camps, banquets, youth worship, missions, etc.
  • Enlists and equips leadership for the Next Gen Ministry.
  • Works with other program leaders and directors in conducting and evaluating a comprehensive program of spiritual, educational, emotional, and physical development for children of all ages through engaging their parents or guardians; displays strong, effective skills as a team player.
  • Stays informed of new trends in Next Gen Ministry and seeks to enrich all areas of ministry for all children and youth.
  • Assists in the development of the church budget for all ages through 12th grade; operates within the confines of the approved budget.
  • Plans, conducts, and evaluates a ministry of contacts by Next Gen students and its leadership.
  • Develops leadership abilities of all children and youth.
  • Serves as the staff liaison on all committees relating to children and youth of all ages.
  • Is knowledgeable in areas of media, social media, and technology; drives media engagement.
  • Supports the ORCBC Mission and operates within CBC’s By Laws and Policies & Procedures.
  • Seeks a continuing education through independent study, seminars, conferences, etc.
  • Advises the Senior Pastor and staff concerning the needs of all children and youth.
  • Serves as a member of the Church Council.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.


General

  • Must be a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, having been baptized by immersion, and demonstrates a lifestyle as a true disciple.
  • Must hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in religious education or equivalent. Preferred an SBC affiliated university or one with a conservative theological standing. Preferred progress toward or commitment to obtaining a master’s degree in divinity, theology, or religious education from an accredited SBC or similar seminary.
  • Must be a member of ORCBC or be willing to become a member upon accepting the position.
  • Must live in the Oak Ridge immediate area or be willing to relocate to Oak Ridge upon hire.
  • Must be available to be in the office as needed to attend staff meetings and to meet the needs of the church including communication with other senior staff, ministry leaders, and participation in all church-wide activities.


Appointment:

  • Recommended by Personnel Committee and/or ad hoc committee, as well as by Senior Pastor
  • Approved by Central Baptist Church congregation.
  • Reports to the Senior Pastor
