When students enter into a salvation-relationship with Jesus, their identities are forever changed. A new identity is born in place of the old one. This is the “new creation” Paul talks about in 2 Corinthians 5. This new identity is one that finds its definition and purpose in Christ, and Jesus had lots to say about this.

Jesus and Identity: A 4-Lesson Bible Study gives teenagers four snapshots of what this new identity looks like. Students will learn:

  • What Jesus meant when He challenged them to be salt and light
  • That Jesus defines greatness differently than the world
  • That their true purpose is found in “remaining” in Christ
  • That Jesus wants to use them to reach the lost

Teach Jesus And Identity and help students discover who Jesus intends them to be.

  • Lesson 1: Created To Stand Out

    Lesson Objectives: That their lives were intended by God to be used to get the attention of the world around them, all for God’s glory; and to step back and evaluate exactly what impact their lives are having on the people they encounter on a day-to-day basis. (Matthew 5:13-16, 1 Peter 2:12}

    Lesson 2: The World, Upside Down

    Lesson Objectives: That your identity as a Christ-follower means greatness is defined differently than the world defines it; and to look around them and identify opportunities to humbly serve others in God’s name. (Mark 9:33-37, Philippians 2:3-4)

    Lesson 3: Living As Branches

    Lesson Objectives: That as Christ-followers, “remaining in Jesus” is essential to their identity, even if it means paring-off other aspects of their lives; and to consider any aspects of their lives to which they’re devoted that may be keeping them from fully following Christ most. (John 15:1-8, 1 John 2:5-6)

    Lesson 4: Work To Do

    Learning Objectives: That their identity as Christ-followers means they are Jesus’ answer to bringing the message of the Gospel to the hurting and the lost; and to commit to being more invested in being messengers of the Gospel to those who most need it. (Matthew 9:35-38, Colossians 3:12)
