What is Activate: Grace?

Grace is the foundation of God's relationship with humankind. Grace is most fully seen in those moments where we have the least right to expect anything and then are lavished with God's favor. It flows out of God’s character, and shapes our interactions with Him.

Grace, one of the studies in the Activate line of Bible study curriculum, will help your students understand that God's grace is tied to His very character. The loving-kindness that He loves to show us is utterly undeserved on our part. And in Christ, the ultimate kindness was shown: we can know forgiveness from sins and eternal life through Christ only because of God's grace.

WHAT'S COVERED IN GRACE?

LESSON 1: A GRACIOUS GOD

What we want students to learn: That your students would understand how God’s grace is to be understood as His goodness and loving-kindness toward people.

What we want students to do with what they’ve learned: To consider how this truth shapes their interactions with God.

Scripture Focus: Psalm 31:19, Micah 7:18, Psalm 145:8-16

Overview: Grace is the foundation of God's relationship with humankind. As a concept, grace is expressed in quite a few different ways in Scripture. But for this lesson and this series, grace can be thought of as the overwhelming goodness of God—His mercy, kindness, and ultimately salvation—poured out over us. Oh, and one more important note: it's entirely, 100% undeserved by us! That's the essential quality of grace. It is simply God's unearned goodness. Grace is most fully seen in those moments where we have the least right to expect anything and then are lavished with God's favor. When we understand grace like this, we see examples of it all throughout Scripture. In this lesson, your students will see how grace flows out of God's character, and how this shapes their interactions with Him.

LESSON 2: ULTIMATE GRACE

What we want students to learn: That your students would understand that salvation through Christ is the fullest expression of God’s grace.

What we want students to do with what they’ve learned: To be able to identify how God’s grace transformed their characters.

Scripture Focus: Titus 3:3-8

Overview: God’s kindness and goodness are displayed throughout the Bible. He lavishes blessings on the righteous, and even blesses the unrighteous! Yet, nowhere is God’s kindness more extravagantly displayed than through the gift of salvation given through His Son, Jesus. This passage from Titus makes it clear: God’s provision of forgiveness from sins and eternal life were motivated by nothing other than His grace. We deserved death because of our sin. But because of God’s kindness, He made a means for us to know and serve Him. One of the best things you can help your students do is to articulate how God’s grace has transformed them, realizing the difference God’s grace has made in their lives. This lesson will equip you to facilitate this level of discussion.

LESSON 3: PEOPLE OF GRACE

What we want students to learn: That your students would understand that they are called to be people whose every relationship is defined by grace.

What we want students to do with what they’ve learned: To identify examples of how they can extend grace to their family, friends, and peers.

Scripture Focus: Colossians 3:12-17, Ephesians 4:1-3

Overview: You've helped your students understand that God's grace is tied to His very character. The loving-kindness that He loves to show us is utterly undeserved on our part. And in Christ, the ultimate kindness was shown: we can know forgiveness from sins and eternal life through Christ only because of God's grace. But the question is, what is our response? What do we do as a result of benefitting from God's amazing grace? Scripture is clear: our everyday interactions with each other and with the world should be giant advertisements for God's grace in action. We're called to return God's grace to others, showing the same kindness, compassion, patience, and mercy that God shows us daily. This lesson will help your students identify how this might look in their daily interactions with the people they encounter.

REAL STORIES FROM REAL YOUTH PASTORS

"This year long curriculum is absolutely incredible! I am using this curriculum for 7th-12th grade Sunday morning bible studies. My teachers and students have been engaged every week with the studies that have been put together. This has been an easy win for our student ministry."

"First let me say I really enjoy going through my YM360 curriculum with our students. The units don't shy away from the tough subjects, but are also super relatable for our students. The organization of the lessons and helpful tips is a huge asset to our teachers as well. They allow our teachers who don't have a seminary degree to feel comfortable teaching the Bible."

"Our adult teachers are very impressed with the lessons in your studies, and the students enjoy it as well. Thank you for providing excellence in your ministry!"
