In the book of Matthew, Jesus shows with His actions and tells with His words that He’s the true King over everything! He’s the Rescuer sent by God! He’s actually God Himself! And in this study, families learn what life is like with Him as the King.

In this biography of Jesus, Mark focuses on Jesus as the suffering servant—the one who lays down His life to save His people. He also shows us how Jesus is the true King over everything! Mark’s style of storytelling is fast-paced, simple, and straightforward. You’ll often hear him use the word “immediately” as he moves us from one scene to the next. 

Luke is a careful historian and a good storyteller. He wrote more pages of the New Testament than any other person! He’s also the author of the book of Acts, which tells us about the early days of the Church. Of the four gospels (the word “gospel” means “good news”), Luke’s gospel gives us the most detailed picture of the birth of Jesus and His early life.

John’s book is a biography of Jesus that helps us see that He’s no ordinary teacher. He’s fully human and fully God! John wants us to know for sure that He’s the one and only Savior (Rescuer) of the world. We’ll see Jesus do miracles, teach people what’s true, pray for us and for others, stand up to wicked people, give His Life as a sacrifice of love, and conquer death by rising from the grave. Wow!

In the book of Acts, we get to hear how the Gospel (the good news about Jesus) started moving out from Jerusalem (where Jesus died) to the whole world! We learn how the Church got its start! It’s about God’s work in the world and we’re now a part of that, too. This is His story—“history!”

In the book of Romans, families learn about the gospel itself— the good news that Jesus has come to save us! They also learn about unity (togetherness through love) because God wanted the Jews and Gentiles in Rome (and all over the world) to love and welcome each other. It's a big part of what Jesus calls us to as His people! From the very beginning, God has been working to build an ethnically and culturally diverse family that's known for its love. 

Paul talks to his friends about two big categories in their lives: their compromises with evil (and worshipping idols) and the sin that crept into their relationships with others in God’s family (the church). Here are some of the things you will learn about in this letter: unity, considering others’ needs, showing respect for others and keeping order in worship, not letting evil grow in the church, and the resurrection.

2 Corinthians has a lot to say to us about the cross-shaped life. It talks about humility, generosity, and unity. It shows us God’s way of greatness and how it’s different from how we usually think. It tells us how the Holy Spirit changes us and how each of us will one day give an account to God for the lives we lived here on Earth. 2 Corinthians also reminds us to hold tightly to the truth about Jesus—even when something that seems easier or more popular to believe comes along. This letter stresses the importance of peace and truth in God’s family.
