Today’s teenager lives in a hyper-sexualized culture.

And while sexual immorality is an almost timeless struggle, the world your students live in seems to take the glamorization of sex to unprecedented levels. Culture calls teenagers to live a life where sexual activity and sexual expression is a vital part of their identity. But the Bible challenges your students to embrace God’s view of sex and sexuality, to rise above the message of culture and to instead live holy lives. In short, the Bible calls your students to Live Differently.

Live Differently: What the Bible Says About Sex and Holiness is a four-week sermon series that will teach your students God’s intent for sex and how God views sex outside of this intent. Most importantly, Live Differently will help you challenge your students with God’s call to live a life of holiness in a world of sexual immorality.

We want to be clear about our interpretation of scripture regarding sex and holiness. Read more...

Live Differently is a 4-week sermon series designed to help teenagers understand sex and sexuality that is good according to God and the Bible. The series moves beyond a discussion about what not to do, challenging students to actively pursue a life of holiness, not only as it pertains to sex and sexuality but in other areas of their lives.

To accomplish this, Session 1 defines what the Bible says about sex that is as God intended it to be. In Session 2, we’ll use this same definition to serve as the standard for defining sexual immorality.

Because we know that there is a difference of biblical interpretation among Christ-followers, we want to be up front about our interpretation of Scripture and where we stand on this question. Our interpretation of Scripture is that God intended sex to be between and man and a women within the boundaries of marriage. Anything outside of this is defined as sexual immorality.

Our intent in declaring this up front is simply to provide you with the information you need to choose a study that aligns with your interpretation of Scripture. If your interpretation of the Bible’s teaching on sex and sexual immorality differs from ours, we feel there is much in Live Differently that is of great value. But, you will need to plan on addressing this difference as it comes up.

In some ways, this is one of the great questions of our times: how do we graciously deal with theological differences among the family of Believers? Our hope is that grace will ultimately rule any conversations that may come about as a result of any differences we may have in this regard.

    • Any large group setting
    • Mid-week youth service
    • "Master teacher” format

LIVE DIFFERENTLY COVERS THE FOLLOWING PURPOSES AND PASSAGES:

Session 1: To help students place the discussion of sex and sexuality within the context of God’s ways versus the world’s ways.

    • Scripture: 1 John 5:19, John 1:10-11, James 4:4, Colossians 3:5, 1 John 5:4-5, John 16:33
    • Snapshot: This session will help you introduce what Live Differently is all about, but more importantly you have the chance to help students grasp the conflict between God’s ways and the world’s ways. In this way, you won’t focus as much on sex and sexuality, but will instead focus on the specifics of why the world’s ways are opposed to God’s ways.

Session 2: To help students know exactly what the Bible means when it defines sexual immorality.

    • Scripture: Hebrews 13:4, Song of Solomon 2:7, Matthew 5:27-28, 1 Corinthians 10:12-13, James 4:7
    • Snapshot: Your goal in this session is to show how exactly the Bible defines sexual immorality. If students are going to look at the effects of sexual immorality, you want to make sure everyone is on the same page about what it is.

Session 3: To help students understand the definition of holiness and what it means to pursue holiness with their lives.

    • Scripture: Psalm 77:13, Exodus 15:11, Revelation 15:4, Leviticus 19:2, 1 Peter 1:15-16, Hebrews 10:10
    • Snapshot: In this session, you’re going to define holiness in a few different ways. You’re going to define what it means that God is holy, look at how Scripture calls us to be holy, and even touch on the idea of sanctification.

Session 4: To challenge students with the call to stand up for Christ at all costs in an effort to point others toward Him.

    • Scripture: Matthew 5:13-16
    • Snapshot: Your goal in this session is to show how standing up for Christ can truly draw people toward a relationship with God.
