What is Activate: God's Presence?

God is present everywhere. He always is. That means He is present with all of creation, including with us. Here's the amazing thing about God's presence: one day, God will once again be physically present with His people. There will come a day when Jesus has returned to call all of His people back to Him. When this happens, Scripture tells us that God will institute a new order of things.

God’s Presence, one of the studies in the Activate line of the Bible study curriculum, will help your students live their faith through good times and bad; the notion that God is always with them is one that has great relevance in their lives.

WHAT'S COVERED IN GOD'S PRESENCE?

LESSON 1: A god with his people

What we want students to learn: That there is nowhere in all of creation where God isn’t. God is present everywhere, all the time.

What we want students to do with what they’ve learned: To grasp the hope, strength, and joy that comes from knowing that God is always with them.

Scripture Focus: Psalm 139:7–10, Jeremiah 23:23–24, Psalm 16:11

Overview: One of the ways we describe God is to talk about His omnipresence. The simple definition of this concept is that God is always present (the Latin prefix “omni-“ means “all”). God is present everywhere. He always is. That means He is present with all of creation, including with us. There is never anywhere we can go that God isn’t. (This is both an incredibly comforting and convicting thought.) As students live their faith through good times and bad, the notion that God is always with them is one that has great relevance in their lives. This series will help your students grasp the importance of God’s omnipresence and the implications it has for their life and faith.

LESSON 2: GOD WITH US

What we want students to learn: That Jesus was God in the flesh, the presence of God manifested in physical form to lead the lost back to God.

What we want students to do with what they’ve learned: To consider what their story with Jesus sounds like to others, especially those who don’t have a saving relationship with Jesus.

Scripture Focus: 1 John 1:1–4

Overview: John talked about Jesus in a unique way. He talked about Jesus as one who KNEW Him. Of course, John had an advantage over us because he got to live his life with Jesus in real time. Our relationship with Jesus isn’t one where physical proximity comes into play. But we can know Jesus. He makes Himself known. And His presence in our lives is just as real as His presence in John’s life. When our students talk about Jesus, do they do so as people who have spent time with Him? Who knows Him? Who have had their lives impacted by Jesus’ presence? This lesson is intended to challenge your students to see that Jesus is just as present in their lives today as He was in the lives of the disciples and to consider how their faith is impacted by this truth.

LESSON 3: A PERFECTED future

What we want students to learn: That there will come a day when all who have been saved by faith in God will dwell in the presence of God forever.

What we want students to do with what they’ve learned: To articulate a sense of urgency for those whom they know do not have a saving relationship with Jesus.

Scripture Focus: Revelation 21:1–4

Overview: Here's the amazing thing about God's presence: one day, God will once again be physically present with His people. There will come a day when Jesus has returned to call all of His people back to Him. When this happens, Scripture tells us that God will institute a new order of things. Our basic existence will change. God will create a new heaven and a new earth, and God's people will dwell with Him, personally and physically, for eternity. There will be no more sorrow, no suffering, and no need. God will be with His people, and His people will be with Him. This is the reality for those who have come to saving faith in God.

REAL STORIES FROM REAL YOUTH PASTORS

"This year long curriculum is absolutely incredible! I am using this curriculum for 7th-12th grade Sunday morning bible studies. My teachers and students have been engaged every week with the studies that have been put together. This has been an easy win for our student ministry."

"First let me say I really enjoy going through my YM360 curriculum with our students. The units don't shy away from the tough subjects, but are also super relatable for our students. The organization of the lessons and helpful tips is a huge asset to our teachers as well. They allow our teachers who don't have a seminary degree to feel comfortable teaching the Bible."

"Our adult teachers are very impressed with the lessons in your studies, and the students enjoy it as well. Thank you for providing excellence in your ministry!"
