What is Activate: God's Mission?

What is God's mission? God plans to redeem humankind from the effects of sin, demonstrated as He interjects His will throughout history and in the lives of humankind. Put just, God's mission is rescue. The highlight of God's mission was sending the Rescuer, Jesus, to redeem us from the consequences of our sins, creating the possibility of peace between God and humankind. Only Jesus can free us from sin's effects

God’s Mission, one of the studies in the Activate line of Bible study curriculum, will help your students trace the work of God's hand through time and history, watching Him put into place His mission to rescue people from the consequences of their sins.

WHAT'S COVERED IN GOD"S MISSION?

LESSON 1: WhAT IS THE MISSION?

What we want students to learn: That they would understand, as best as they can, the concept of the Trinity and its importance to our faith.

What we want students to do with what they’ve learned: To step back and realize how amazing it is that God did all He did with them in mind, and to help them know how to respond accordingly.

Scripture Focus: Genesis 12:1-3, Deuteronomy 6:20-24, Zechariah 1:1-6, Jeremiah 23:5-6; Isaiah 53:5-7

Overview: God’s mission. It's a concept that is tossed around in certain circles, but one that might prove hard to define. But it shouldn't be. In fact, all of Scripture speaks to His mission. What is God's mission? God plans to redeem humankind from the effects of sin, demonstrated as He interjects His will throughout history and in the lives of humankind. Put just, God's mission is rescue. It is recovery. We see this mission begin in Genesis, reach a new level in the Gospels, and ultimately, see its completion in Revelation. In this three-lesson series, your students will learn what God’s mission is and where it started (Lesson 1), how Jesus was the apex of God’s rescue mission (Lesson 2), and their role in being a part of God’s mission (Lesson 3).

LESSON 2: JESUS AS RESCUER

What we want students to learn: That Jesus was the Rescuer God had been promising for centuries, serving as the highpoint in God’s mission to reconcile sinful people to Himself.

What we want students to do with what they’ve learned: To consider all that God accomplished through Christ on their behalf, and to creatively voice a personal response to God as a result.

Scripture Focus: Mark 1:9-15, 2:1-17

Overview: God's mission was set in motion with Adam and Eve's Fall. From that moment on, God has been working to restore the relationship between Him and His children. This restoration is seen most vividly in the Person of Christ. The highlight of God's mission was sending the Rescuer, Jesus, to redeem us from the consequences of our sins, creating the possibility of peace between God and humankind. Only Jesus can free us from sin's effects. And He made it clear that this is precisely why He was sent to our earth. When we internalize all that was accomplished through Christ's coming, and all the intentionality (motivated by love) that went into the orchestration of this plan, we can't help but have an emotional response. In this lesson, your students will be challenged and guided to voice a personal emotion to God based on how being rescued by Christ causes them to feel.

LESSON 3: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

What we want students to learn: That there will come a day when God has accomplished His rescue mission, and all Believers will live forever in peace with God.

What we want students to do with what they’ve learned: To accept God's call on their lives to be essential pieces of God's rescue mission.

Scripture Focus: Matthew 24:30-31, Revelation 7:9-17, Revelation 21:1-8, 2Corinthians 5:16-21

Overview: Your students have had the opportunity to trace the work of God's hand through time and history, watching Him put into place His mission to rescue people from the consequences of their sins. You've shown your students how Christ was the high point of God's rescue mission, the Rescuer Himself. In this lesson, your students will get a brief glimpse of what the end of the mission looks like. They'll also be shown that they have a vital role to play in God's mission, and be challenged to accept the call to share God's story of rescue and redemption.

REAL STORIES FROM REAL YOUTH PASTORS

"This year long curriculum is absolutely incredible! I am using this curriculum for 7th-12th grade Sunday morning bible studies. My teachers and students have been engaged every week with the studies that have been put together. This has been an easy win for our student ministry."

"First let me say I really enjoy going through my YM360 curriculum with our students. The units don't shy away from the tough subjects, but are also super relatable for our students. The organization of the lessons and helpful tips is a huge asset to our teachers as well. They allow our teachers who don't have a seminary degree to feel comfortable teaching the Bible."

"Our adult teachers are very impressed with the lessons in your studies, and the students enjoy it as well. Thank you for providing excellence in your ministry!"
