Christmas is a time when we prepare our hearts and minds to celebrate the moment that God became human. When God showed up, it wasn’t with fanfare on the steps of the Roman emperor’s palace. No, the Savior who would take away the sins of the world was born in a humble stable to a teenage mom and an honest dad. The Prince of Peace was suddenly among the very people He created. 

And they beheld Him. His parents observed Him in wonder. The shepherds looked down at Him, recalling the angel’s message. The wise men would come to lay their eyes on this long-awaited child. They all beheld the Savior. And thousands of years later, we still celebrate His arrival.

To say that Christmas is an exciting time of the year would be an understatement. It’s a season bursting at the seams with anticipation. Gifts, great food, no school, and time with family are things kids look forward to all year long. With all of these wonderful things waiting around the corner, it can be easy to lose focus on why you’re celebrating in the first place. By going through Behold the Savior with your child, you can be sure they will learn what it means to focus all their attention on the most important person ever, Jesus.

Each day of the 25-day devotional contains a short message to read with your child, a couple of questions to help them think through the Bible verse, and an activity to drive home the point of the message. Behold the Savior is an excellent way to prepare your child’s heart and mind for the coming Savior. 

Behold the Savior is a four-session sermon series that will put your students behind the experiences of those who had real, personal, and faith-deepening interactions with Jesus in the Christmas Story. This series will encourage their anticipation, beholding, wonder, and awe of the Savior.

Good News, Great Joy, All People is a five-session sermon series that will challenge your students’ perspectives of what Christmas is all about. By slowing down and studying in depth the angel’s message to the shepherds, your students will come to learn that Christmas is more than a one-night event. It’s the long-awaited fulfillment of God’s promise to His people. Your students will be encouraged to see the arrival of Jesus as the only thing that brings freedom from fear, great joy, and good news to all people.

Get them moving as they share by shifting from one side of the room to the other (or raise their left hand or right hand, if you have a big group) as they indicate if they “DID” or “DIDN’T” do it!

Many people favor dogs over cats, or cats over dogs, but it’s time to prove who is better. Have you group examine the cute-yet-disturbing outfits and decide who wore it better – the cat or the dog. They can yell out their answer to sway others, but then need to vote… either by moving from one side of the room to the other, or however you feel works for your group. Enjoy!
