Job Description

The purpose of the full time Youth Minister is to have a personal relationship with Christ and to reach youth who do not yet know Him, and to continue discipling those who do, helping them continue to grow in their faith.

Job Summary

The Youth Minister serves under the supervision of the Pastor and is responsible for developing and leading the ministry to youth at First Baptist Church Childress. This includes reaching and discipling students in grades six through twelve through weekly Bible studies and other ministry opportunities. The Youth Minister will work alongside the youth committee (Pastor, Music and Senior Adults, youth leaders, and parents) to plan and coordinate events. They will also meet with parents as needed to counsel, inform, and provide updates about their children and the student ministry. In partnership with Youth Volunteers, the Youth Minister will assist in planning and implementing the annual ministry budget and submitting it to the Finance Committee.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrate a personal relationship with Jesus Christ by having made a profession of faith, baptized, and continuing to live daily as a disciple of Jesus.
  • Strong understanding and commitment to the Baptist Faith and message statement.
  • Experience in youth ministry involving pre-teens and teens. 
  • Bachelor’s degree, or in pursuit of, with emphasis in theology or ministry.
  • Proficient in Technical and Computer Presentation skills.
  • Some level of Praise and Worship capabilities or music background preferred 

Areas of Responsibilities

  • Recruit adult leaders to teach Sunday School; Manage and actively oversee volunteer leadership.
  • Regularly lead meetings of the adult workers involved with all aspects of youth ministry to identify problem areas, concerns, and develop future plans.
  • Develop a framework plan and provide a balanced program of evangelism and discipleship for grades 6 through 12 which will include; Bible instruction, relevant worship, small groups and accountability, lifestyle-relational evangelism, and personal discipleship.
  • Lead a weekly Wednesday evening fellowship/worship event for youth.
  • Plan and lead out-of-town travel that combines fellowship and spiritual development at least twice a year.
  • Plan, organize, and lead single day and multi-day mission-focused youth events and service opportunities.
  • Coordinate events to reach unchurched youth on their turf and the unsaved.
  • Visit youth at various schools for lunches, school room events, etc.
  • Attend local public school events such as; sporting events, plays, and band concerts to establish visibility with the youth in the community.
  • Coordinate Fall retreats, spring retreats, and church camps in the summers.
  • Work with other ministry leaders within the church for cohesive planning and scheduling.
  • Meet with parents of the youth to discuss the direction and the needs of the youth Ministry.
  • Provide parents with feedback concerning spiritual growth and/or disciplinary issues with their youth.
  • Encourage and reinforce parental support and participation in youth activities and programs to expand ministry opportunities.
  • Promote the youth ministry to the church and local community.
  • Capable of maintaining order and fostering engagement within large groups of students. 

Administration

  • Develop with input from the youth committee a schedule of large events including dates, and present to the parents of the youth by the beginning of each semester and summer.
  • Oversee and manage child safety training for all youth volunteers.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Attend all staff meetings and other church meetings as may be required, and be prepared to report on ministry activities.
  • Report to the Senior Pastor and communicate with all ministry leaders on all plans and policy changes.
  • Faithfully attend church services and church-wide activities.
  • Develop and follow an annual budget for the youth ministry.
  • Initiate and oversee the planning and implementation of any fundraising activity related to youth ministry and maintain accurate accounting of individual youth activity accounts.
  • Oversee the physical condition of the youth facility. 

Personal and Professional

  • Keep close to God through personal Bible study, prayer, service, and self-improvement.
  • Keep morally pure, mentally alert, emotionally sound and physically fit, faithfully take a day off each week and full vacation time each year.
  • Pursue a program of professional growth through yearly ministerial conference attendance to stay up to date with advances and ideas in youth ministry.
  • Share in pastoral visitation by assignment. 
  • Participate regularly in the church outreach program, and encourage and lead the youth in outreach.
  • Preach in our worship services at the request of the pastor. Comply with the personnel policy of the church.
  • Demonstrate good financial stewardship.
  • Strive for excellence in ministry and preparation.
  • Carry out any other assignment made by the pastor. 

Annual Salary (or range): $40,000-$70,000
