Youth Worker BOOST: Investment
ym360 knows youth workers. We know what an incredibly rewarding, yet incredibly challenging job youth ministry can be. There are days when your spirits are sky-high, and there are days when you could use a bit of a “pick me up” from God's Word . . . That's why we're happy to offer Youth Worker Boost, one of the many valuable resources on the ym360 Blog.
Boost is a short, weekly piece of encouragement designed to, well, “boost” your spirits and encourage you as you minister to students. We consider it yet another great opportunity to serve you and your ministry.

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.--Matthew 6:19-20
Ask anyone in their 50’s or 60’s about retirement investments and they will probably say something like, “I would have been in good shape if not for the stock market tumbles after the terrorist attacks on 9/11. Oh, and the recession in 2008.” (They will then probably make grumbling noises under their breath. And you may notice smoke coming out of their ears. Don’t worry. This is normal.) During those periods of time a lot of people lost 40 to 60 percent of the money that was in their retirement portfolio.
Maybe you can relate to the frustration (and maybe even fear) they feel over watching the fruit of hard work and financial discipline fade away.
While it’s true that there’s risk associated with having money in stocks, investments in the Kingdom of God are never at risk. Jesus said the things we do in His name, the times we minister to the needs of people, and the opportunities we take to share our faith, all of these things are investments that are safely stored in heaven. I don’t claim to know how God structures his interest rates. But I do know the returns— a soul saved, a life changed—are pretty good.
When the days seem to last forever, and the going gets tough, remember that your work has an eternal reward for you and for the students you minister to.
Our prayer for you: Our prayer for you is that you would be encouraged by both the immediate and the "not-yet-realized" aspects of your calling.
