Helping Teenagers Live Out Their Faith
One of the greatest challenges we face as those who lead teenagers to grow as disciples is to see them actually putting their faith into practice. We all want to see our students know God and to be transformed by the living out of this knowledge. And yet, bridging the gap between knowledge and action is where we seem to most often see students coming up short.
Which is why we think the elements Bible study curriculum is such a great tool for youth workers looking to help their students live out their faith in meaningful, life-changing ways.
In case you haven't heard, elements is our newest Bible study curriculum, and it’s unique in that it examines 25 core faith concepts in three-lesson snapshots. These 25 concepts are vital to your students’ understanding of their faith. But it’s the way the three-lesson snapshot is structured that makes such an impact.
As I've talked about the last couple of days here on the blog, you could spend months teaching some of the concepts covered in elements. But our goal was to find a way to teach the basics in a simple-to-teach but still "meaty" curriculum that students could latch-on to. That’s where the structure of the three-lesson format comes in. On Tuesday we talked about the "lens" we use in every Lesson 1 of an elements study, the lens of God's character. You can read more about that here. Yesterday, we looked at the "lens" we use in every Lesson 2 of an elements, the lens of the Gospel. You can read more about that here.
Today, I want to briefly mention the third "lens" of every elements study, namely, how we look at the specific concept through the lens of real-life application.
Every elements lesson helps students apply what they've learned, But the third lesson in every elements story looks at how the specific concept should be lived out in everything we do as Christ-followers. So, for example, in the three-lesson look at Grace, the third lesson helps students understand that they're called to be people whose every relationship is defined by grace, and to identify examples of how they can extend grace to their family, friends, and peers. This same type of progression happens in all of the other 25 elements studies.
It’s a powerful and simple way of helping your students put their faith to work in a practical, relevant way.
If you like what you're hearing about elements, and want to try a study for yourself, you can download an entire study for FREE. This is an excellent way to see if elements will work for your group.
