Youth Worker BOOST: The Locators

Youth Worker BOOST: The Locators

ym360 knows youth workers. We know what an incredibly rewarding, yet incredibly challenging job youth ministry can be. There are days when your spirits are sky-high, and there are days when you could use a bit of a “pick me up” from God's Word . . . That's why we're happy to offer Youth Worker Boost, one of the many valuable resources on the ym360 Blog.

Boost is a short, weekly piece of encouragement designed to, well, “boost” your spirits and encourage you as you minister to students. We consider it yet another great opportunity to serve you and your ministry.

"We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.”—Colossians 1:28

The Locator
is a reality TV series where the host, Troy Dunn, helps reunite long lost family members. In one especially touching episode, a 29-year-old girl is trying to find her mother whom she's never seen. It turns out her mother passed away years earlier. But Dunn and his crew were able to locate a brother this young lady never knew she had. The brother had a picture of their mother, and when the young lady saw her mother’s picture she started crying.

What she said next struck me as profound: “I have never looked like anyone before.”

It occurred to me that in a way, The Locator sums up what we as student ministers do. We are locators ourselves. We help students meet a heavenly Father, a father some of whom never knew they had. We take teenagers created in the very image of God and introduce them to the One who loves them. And unlike some of the reunions on the show, this Father always wants a deep and personal relationship with His children.

What an awesome privilege it is to be called to help students reunite with God, and to grow in their knowledge of Him.

Our prayer for you: Our prayer for you today is that your ministry would be about reminding your students of the Father they were created to look like.
