Youth Worker BOOST: Chosen

ym360 knows youth workers. We know what an incredibly rewarding, yet incredibly challenging job youth ministry can be. There are days when your spirits are sky-high, and there are days when you could use a bit of a "pick me up" from God's Word . . . That's why we're happy to offer Youth Worker Boost, one of the many valuable resources on the ym360 Blog.

Boost is a short, weekly piece of encouragement designed to, well, "boost" your spirits and encourage you as you minister to students. We consider it yet another great opportunity to serve you and your ministry.

And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.--2 Timothy 1:11-12

You've probably had a moment like I had the not too long ago . . . I was sitting on the deck of a ski lodge watching some older high school students from my youth group learn to ski. I watched as they helped each other, encouraged each other, and laughed with (and at) one another. It was one of those moments where I was so moved by what God has called (and allowed) me to do as a vocation. Watching them triggered thoughts of other moments I've had while serving as a youth minister, like hearing a former student preach, or performing a wedding ceremony for two students who met years earlier in youth group.

It's at these times that I am convinced that being a student minister is one of the greatest callings in the world.

To think that God chose me and you for the awesome responsibility of leading students closer to Him is sometimes overwhelming. And it's not without it's trials. In 2 Timothy 1:11-12 Paul pointed out that God chose him to preach, and that he was suffering for it. For every moment that things are awesome, it seems like there are those moments where we, too, suffer because of our calling.

When it gets rough, as it will, remember that God chose you to play a role in the faith development of teenagers.

It's a high calling. But God will always give you everything you need to fulfill the calling . . . as well as an awful lot of joy along the way!

Our prayer for you: Our prayer for you today is that the joys of your calling will far outweigh the trials, and that in the midst of the tough times, the awesome moments will see you through.
