Joy. It’s a good word—a happy word. But it’s often confused with the word happiness. Happiness depends on circumstances, like a fun event or good news, and it can feel just out of reach when things go wrong. Joy, however, is different. As promised in the Bible, joy isn’t tied to emotions or situations. It’s rooted in Christ—real, solid, and lasting—so it endures through fear, pain, and challenges, offering hope no matter what life brings.

  • "PHILIPPIANS" IS PART OF YM360’S SERMON SERIES LINE OF RESOURCES AND IS IDEAL FOR:

    • Any large group setting
    • Mid-week youth service
    • "Master teacher” format

"PHILIPPIANS" COVERS THE FOLLOWING PURPOSES AND PASSAGES:

    • Session 1 – See Joy (Philippians 1:12-18; Psalm 34:1) | Paul’s journey from a black-and-white life to a full-color life didn’t happen without challenges. However, the key to Paul’s joy, especially when he faced challenging circumstances, was how he chose to see it. And like Paul, we find true joy when we see our circumstances through God instead of the other way around.

    • Session 2 – Be Joy (Philippians 2:1-11) | The next step after seeing where joy comes from is learning how to mirror this kind of joy with others. To do this, we must step off the self-promotion ladder, where we try to push others down to climb toward success. Instead, we can live with radical love, humility, and care for others instead of ourselves. When we follow Christ in humility, we can be someone who mirrors the joy that we have in our lives.

    • Session 3 – Chase Joy (Philippians 3:8-14) | Once we’ve learned how to see joy and mirror it in our lives, we’ll see how Paul encourages us to chase joy and follow Jesus no matter what. We have a prize worth attaining, a Savior worth pursuing, and a race worth running. It’s up to us to chase it.

    • Session 4 – Choose Joy (Philippians 4:1-9) | We have to choose joy. Every day is an opportunity to choose joy. Paul called the Philippians to rejoice, and that’s an intentional decision we have to make every day of our lives. There comes a time when we need to step up and choose the joy that Jesus offers us.
