How To Live: A 4-Lesson Bible Study For Guys

Lesson 1

• Main Passage: 1 Peter 1:13-16
• Purpose: To embrace the idea that our lives must reflect the holiness of God. 
• Session Snapshot: It's easy to call yourself a Christian. However, it's much harder to live out the Word of God in your life. In this lesson, we see God's clear call on every Christian's life to be holy: to be set apart from the world to reflect His good and glorious nature. The path to holiness can only be accomplished by God working through us as we fix our eyes on Christ and submit to the Lord’s calling on our lives.

Lesson 2

• Main Passage: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8
• Purpose: To help guys understand that our call to holiness means that we must put to death the passions of lust and sexual immorality. 
• Session Snapshot: We live in a culture that is saturated with sexual imagery and sexual immorality. It's hard to escape the world's influence and the world’s pressures when it comes to this idea. Many of Paul's first-century audience would have felt the same way. Paul’s words to the Thessalonians echo through the centuries and find us dealing with many of the same issues. His message to them is about as straightforward as you can get: as disciples of Jesus, our holiness concerning sexual matters is something we cannot overlook or let slide. This session will challenge guys to reconsider their efforts in this area of their lives.

Lesson 3

• Main Passage: 1 John 3:4-10
• Purpose: To understand that all Christ-followers must pursue holiness and flee habitual sin.
• Session Snapshot: All Christians will struggle with sin, as no one other than Jesus Christ is truly without sin. However, we must evaluate what our relationship with sin looks like. If we abide in Christ, our attitude toward sin and righteousness will follow a very clear pattern. If we want to pursue holiness and righteousness, we cannot allow our lives to be marked by patterns of habitual and ongoing sinful practices.

Lesson 4

• Main Passage: 2 Timothy 2:20-26
• Purpose: To consider the characteristics of a life filled with the Holy Spirit and how God can use that life for His glory and for the good of others.
• Session Snapshot: Holiness is living a life that is set apart for the glory of God. It is the habitual practice of choosing God over choosing sin. In this session, we will see how God can use the way we live to bring honor to His name. Paul describes the characteristics of a heart pursuing holiness and shows us how God uses such a heart for His glory and to be useful for the advancement of His kingdom.
