Prayer can be challenging. What do we say? Are there things God doesn’t care about or can’t handle? Does God even hear us? The psalmists likely felt these things too. What if in the Psalms we have a roadmap to a vibrant prayer life that invites us to engage with God more honestly and experience Him more deeply? What if our prayer life didn’t have to be dull and boring but instead exemplified a flourishing relationship with God? In this series, we’ll explore this roadmap, together.

  • "SELAH" IS PART OF YM360’S SERMON SERIES LINE OF RESOURCES AND IS IDEAL FOR:

    • Any large group setting
    • Mid-week youth service
    • "Master teacher” format

"SELAH" COVERS THE FOLLOWING PURPOSES AND PASSAGES:

    • Session 1 - Wrecked - Psalms of Lament (Psalm 142) | Grief and sorrow can come from many sources: losing a pet or a loved one, experiencing betrayal, or yet another disappointment. We all need comfort and understanding during tough times. Psalms of lament in the Bible can help us feel seen and loved, inviting the Holy Spirit to comfort us. They show how others have cried out to God in pain and found His compassion. He is faithful to meet us the same way.
    • Session 2 - Worthy – Psalms of Praise (Psalm 18) | In our culture, we give awards to recognize achievements, whether in school, sports, or theater. Praise can also come through words of affirmation and gratitude. Similarly, we praise God not by giving Him an award, but by acknowledging His presence, guidance, and care. This praise is about recognizing who He is and what He’s done for us. It's a way to stop and appreciate God's role in our lives.
    • Session 3 - Endurance – Psalms of Thanksgiving (Psalm 136) | Expressing gratitude for God's goodness in our lives helps us follow Him in the future. Thanking Him for His past faithfulness gives us endurance for both happy and tragic times. The author of Psalm 136 practiced this by recalling God's provision and expressing gratitude. His prayer of thanksgiving can be a model for us to show our gratitude to God today. Gratitude strengthens our relationship with Him.
    • Session 4 - Retrospect – Psalms of Remembrance (Psalm 78) | Future generations rely on the current generation to pass on information, including our faith. We've inherited stories and truths about God from those before us, now it’s our turn to pass them on. Psalm 78, calls people to remember God's deeds—creation, parting the Red Sea, defeating enemies, providing food in the desert—and to share these with future generations. Sharing these stories helps future generations continue to know and follow God.
