Linked Out

Instructions:

• Everyone gets out of their seat and links hands in a group with up to five other people or chooses to go solo and hold their own hands by being a link of “1”. Every link should be composed of 1-6 students. Each round the game board will randomly pick a number. The group with the same number of members as the random number are out of the game and sit back down into their seats. After the students stand up and you explain to them the rules, let them know that they will have three seconds to make a link. 
• One more thing… Students have to make a new link every round. This is important because it provides, a great opportunity for students to meet new friends and make newcomers and wallflowers feel like part of the community. Another benefit is how funny it is to watch the students scramble. Students continue to make links with new friends every round until they lose. 
• Then they just have to sit back and watch like all the other losers. One of our favorite things about this crowd game is how much fun it is for all of the students. There aren’t a lot of rules. It’s also pretty simple and easy for students of all mental and physical capabilities. Another variation of this game that works well with large crowds is to say links are only safe if they have the same number of members as the number selected on the screen. This helps clear the field much faster if needed. Toward the end of the game, you can add a stipulation that the link closest to the number is out. That way someone’s always getting the chop!
