Youth Worker BOOST: Party Line
ym360 knows youth workers. We know what an incredibly rewarding, yet incredibly challenging job youth ministry can be. There are days when your spirits are sky-high, and there are days when you could use a bit of a “pick me up” from God's Word . . . That's why we're happy to offer Youth Worker Boost, one of the many valuable resources on the ym360 Blog.
Boost is a short, weekly piece of encouragement designed to, well, “boost” your spirits and encourage you as you minister to students. We consider it yet another great opportunity to serve you and your ministry.

"Hear my prayer, O LORD; listen to my cry for mercy. In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me”—Psalm 86:6-7
Decades ago when telephones were just being put to widespread use, the infrastructure needed to maximize this new technology was seriously lagging. You’ve seen videos or maybe even parodies of switchboard operators manually connecting lines so people could talk with one another. These connections were called “local loops.”
The crazy thing is that there was a time where there weren’t enough of these for people to have their own private connection. So multiple people would often share one connection in what was commonly called a “party line.” As telephone usage increased, it was not uncommon for dozens of customers to share the same line. It’s virtually impossible today to imagine this level of inconvenience, especially for those, say, under 30.
Can you imagine what it must have been like to constantly pick up on someone else’s conversation? And to have trouble even getting a free line to make a call?
It’s fun to think about how far we’ve come in our technology. But this little walk down memory lane is also a good analogy for this week’s verse. When we call out to God, we expect to be heard. We long to ne heard! Isn’t it wonderful that there is no such thing as a “party line” when it comes to our communication with God? It’s such an amazing comfort to know that even though there are billions of people in the world right now, God is fully able to treat every conversation as if it were the only one. He personally not only hears us, but answer us according to His perfect will.
Have you taken time today to use the wonderful privilege of talking directly to God? If not, consider thanking Him for your ministry, your family, the students He’s put under your guidance, and the other blessings in your life.
Our prayer for you: Our prayer for you today is that you would make good use of the open line of communication God has given you, seeking His mercy, love, and guidance in your life.
