"I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber."--Psalm 121:1-3

This is one of those beautiful passages of Scripture that is uplifting and oft-quoted. But what did David actually mean when he envisioned his help coming from the hills?

There's actually a lot of debate over what David meant in the first verse of this psalm.

Some say that the hills represented the high ground militarily and that there is a contrast here between the power of man and the power of God. Others say the hill was where the Temple stood and since the Holy of Holies was where the presence of God abided, David was saying his strength came from God who "was up on that hill."

Regardless of the interpretation, the point is the same: David was a man who knew that his total source of strength came from God. And it gave David great comfort to know that in all he faced in life, his God would never sleep. David was being watched over twenty-four hours a day.

We know at times youth ministry can be a very lonely calling. But you need to be reminded that you're never alone. God is constantly watching over you.

From His vantage point on His holy hill, God never takes His eyes off of your situation.

Our prayer for you: We pray that this truth--that God is constantly watching over you--would be more than mere words, but would be internalized and fully grasped. And that the knowledge of God's presence would carry you through today and the future.
