Youth Worker BOOST: The Ultimate Guide

Youth Worker BOOST: The Ultimate Guide

ym360 knows youth workers. We know what an incredibly rewarding, yet incredibly challenging job youth ministry can be. There are days when your spirits are sky-high, and there are days when you could use a bit of a “pick me up” from God's Word . . . That's why we're happy to offer Youth Worker Boost, one of the many valuable resources on the ym360 Blog.

Boost is a short, weekly piece of encouragement designed to, well, “boost” your spirits and encourage you as you minister to students. We consider it yet another great opportunity to serve you and your ministry.

"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you."--Psalm 32:8-9

When I was in seminary in New Orleans, LA, some friends of mine attempted to find a nice restaurant near the river. Instead, we wound up right in the middle of one of the most crime-ridden housing projects in town. Needless to say, it made for an interesting few moments as we tried to navigate our way out of the projects!

A few days later when I suggested we try it again, my friends wanted no part of it. Until, that is, I explained that our driver would be a long time resident of the city. Not only did this man know what restaurants were best, but he knew exactly how to get to there without the threat of winding up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I struck me not too long ago that as Christ-followers, our faith provides us with a very similar assurance.

In today’s verses, God speaks through David with a Word of promise for all believers. God teaches us. He shows us the way to go. And more than that, He watches over our journeys. As we serve God through our ministries, let’s keep sight of this truth. God has called us to service and gifted us with the gifts to effectively lead. But if we ever seek to chart our own courses when it comes to our ministry to students, we limit our effectiveness to our own understanding and ability.

Let’s all remember to submit the leadership of our lives and our ministries to God, the Perfect Guide.

Our prayer for you: We pray that you would take this truth to heart as you begin to prepare for another year of youth ministry. Truly give the vision and the leadership of your ministry efforts over to God, trusting Him to guide you where He wants to take you.
