Youth Worker BOOST: Living In The Now

ym360 knows youth workers. We know what an incredibly rewarding, yet incredibly challenging job youth ministry can be. There are days when your spirits are sky-high, and there are days when you could use a bit of a “pick me up” from God's Word . . . That's why we're happy to offer Youth Worker Boost, one of the many valuable resources on the ym360 Blog.

Boost is a short, weekly piece of encouragement designed to, well, “boost” your spirits and encourage you as you minister to students. We consider it yet another great opportunity to serve you and your ministry.

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end."--Ecclesiastes 3:1,11

Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived. Three books in the Old Testament highlight three different phases of his life:

  • Song of Songs: young adult
  • Proverbs: mid-life
  • Ecclesiastes: senior adult

As his life comes to a close, he comes to the conclusion that there is a season for everything in our lives. He also alludes to the fact that our lives have a past, a future, and a present. We can't see how "today" fits into God's big picture for our lives.

But Solomon assures us that God has made everything beautiful in its time.

Most of us don't live in the present but rather spend our time pondering or regretting the past, and worrying about the future. If we can't change the past or determine the future, then what do we have left? We have today. And in "the now" we can minister, we can encourage, and we can act.

If you really want to see the beauty of God and what He can do, then be faithful to what He has called you to today.

Our prayer for you: We pray that you would remember the power of today and the moments you have been granted to make a difference in Christ's name. We pray that you would find encouragement and strength in your calling, and that you would act in a way that takes full advantage of the gift that today is.
