Youth Worker BOOST: Change Agent

Youth Worker BOOST: Change Agent

ym360 knows youth workers. We know what an incredibly rewarding, yet incredibly challenging job youth ministry can be. There are days when your spirits are sky-high, and there are days when you could use a bit of a “pick me up” from God's Word . . . That's why we're happy to offer Youth Worker Boost, one of the many valuable resources on the ym360 Blog.

Boost is a short, weekly piece of encouragement designed to, well, “boost” your spirits and encourage you as you minister to students. We consider it yet another great opportunity to serve you and your ministry.

"I planted, Apollos watered, and God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow." 1 Corinthians 3:6-7

Spring is an awesome time of year when nature just explodes with new growth. Green grass, budding trees, and flowering plants all mark the end of winter and the beginning of a warmer time of year. I love to watch all the new plants and trees grow.

But as a student minister I really desire to see spiritual growth in teenagers.

How about you? Do you love watching those moments when something clicks, and students suddenly "get it"? On the other side of the coin, do you get discouraged when you see your students going spiritually stagnant? Do you feel like the lack of growth is your fault? If so, take a second to think about Paul's teaching to the Corinthians on the idea of change agents.

  1. Student ministers can PLANT spiritual truth.
  2. Student ministers can NURTURE what has been planted with sound teaching and modeling Christ-likeness in their behavior.
  3. God is the GROWTH AGENT.

Our responsibility is to plant spiritual seeds in the lives of our students. We are also called to nurture students by exposing them to good Bible teaching through studies, D- Now, summer camps, etc. Spiritual growth is the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of each individual teenager. Don't get too low when spiritual growth is slow. And don't get too high when it's going good.

Most importantly, don't forget that God is the real change agent in the lives of your students.

Our prayer for you: We pray that you would be reminded of the vital role you play in students' lives, but be encouraged that God is the ultimate change-agent in the lives of students, and assured that He will lead them according to His perfect plan.
