Stepping Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Stepping Out Of Your Comfort Zone

I came across this passage in Judges the other day and it made me stop and think . . .

"The Lord said to Gideon, 'With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the other men go, each to his own place.'" (Judges 7:7)

You'll recall that before the great kings of Israel, the people were ruled by judges. aRemember that Gideon wasoOne of these judges who lived during the time the Hebrew people were being constantly attacked by the Midianites. One day God called on Gideon to rescue the Israelites from their dreaded enemy.

Gideon wasn't thrilled about the call to lead an army, pointing out to God that he was a weak man from a weak family. But God convinced Gideon that he was the man for the job. And soon Gideon assembled an impressive army: 32,000 men to fight the Midianites. But, God had yet to really challenge Gideon. God reduced Gideon's army to just 300 men.

Why did God do this? God took Gideon from a place where his confidence was in numbers to a place where his confidence could only be in God.

Gideon was WAY out of his comfort zone. Yet, he obeyed God and won a great victory for Israel.

Has God been calling you to a task that seems overwhelming based on the world's understanding? Don't be afraid to obey God and step out (maybe WAY out) in faith. God may be trying to get you out of your comfort zone and into His zone.

Just think: when you succeed at a God-sized task, you can be 100% certain you were right where God wanted you to be! My hope for all of us is that we would turn from the world's way of viewing a challenge, and embrace God's vision! I pray that we all would be obedient to God's call, taking the faith-leaps that are necessary to be a part of God-sized callings.
