ym360 knows youth workers. We know what an incredibly rewarding, yet incredibly challenging job youth ministry can be. There are days when your spirits are sky-high, and there are days when you could use a bit of a “pick me up” from God’s Word . . .

That’s why we’re happy to introduce Youth Worker Boost, the newest feature on the ym360 Blog. Boost is a short, weekly piece of encouragement designed to, well, “boost” your spirits and encourage you as you minister to students.

We consider it yet another great opportunity to serve you and your ministry.

“The Lord said to Gideon, ‘With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the other men go, each to his own place.’” (Judges 7:7)

Before the great kings of Israel, the people were ruled by judges. One of these judges was Gideon, who lived during the time the Hebrew people were being constantly attacked by the Midianites. One day God called on Gideon to rescue the Israelites from their dreaded enemy.

Gideon wasn’t thrilled about the call to lead an army, pointing out to God that he was a weak man from a weak family. God convinced Gideon that he was the man for the job. And soon Gideon assembled an impressive army: 32,000 men to fight the Midianites. But, God had yet to really challenge Gideon. God reduced Gideon’s army to just 300 men. Why did God do this?

God took Gideon from a place where his confidence was in numbers to a place where his confidence could only be in God.

Gideon was way out of his comfort zone. Yet, he obeyed God and won a great victory for Israel.

Has God been calling you to a task that seems overwhelming based on the world’s understanding? Don’t be afraid to obey God and step out (maybe WAY out) in faith. God may be trying to get you out of your comfort zone and into His zone.

Just think: when you succeed at a God-sized task, you can be 100% certain you were right where God wanted you to be!

Our prayer for you:
We pray today that you would turn from the world’s way of viewing a challenge and embrace God’s vision! We pray that you would be obedient to God’s call, taking the faith-leaps that are necessary to be a part of God-sized callings.

Encouraged by today’s Youth Worker Boost? Don’t keep it a secret! Pass it along to a fellow youth worker or your adult volunteers. Share the love!
