Youth Worker BOOST: Reconciliation

Boost

ym360 knows youth workers. We know what an incredibly rewarding, yet incredibly challenging job youth ministry can be. There are days when your spirits are sky-high, and there are days when you could use a bit of a “pick me up” from God’s Word . . .

That’s why we’re happy to offer Youth Worker Boost, one of the many valuable resources on the ym360 Blog. Boost is a short, weekly piece of encouragement designed to, well, “boost” your spirits and encourage you as you minister to students.

We consider it yet another great opportunity to serve you and your ministry.

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.–2 Corinthians 5:18-19

Most youth ministers have a job description that outlines the scope and nature of the work that has be done as an employee of the church. Now, most all of us can identify quite a few tasks that we routinely undertake that aren’t specifically listed in our job descriptions. Maybe it’s hospital visits. Or maybe it’s mowing your church’s lawn! (We’re pretty sure cleaning up “who-knows-what-that-is” in the boys bathroom after your latest youth group meeting isn’t in there either.) Let’s face it: you do a lot more than is in your job description.

Have you ever seen RECONCILIATION listed in a job description?

Paul writes that this task is given to us directly by God. The World English Dictionary has a great definition for reconciliation: “to make two conflicting things compatible with each other.” What could be more incompatible than our sin nature and the Holy, living God of the Universe? Yet through Jesus Christ we can be made right with God and have a relationship with Him both now and forever.

This ministry of reconciliation–leading students to embrace Christ’s “compatibility solution”–should be number one on our priority list each and every day.

Our prayer for you:
Our prayer for you today is that you would find new strength and energy to embrace your calling as a minister of reconciliation.
