Youth Worker BOOST: Living In The Now

ym360 knows youth workers. We know what an incredibly rewarding, yet incredibly challenging job youth ministry can be. There are days when your spirits are sky-high, and there are days when you could use a bit of a “pick me up” from God’s Word . . .

That’s why we’re happy to introduce Youth Worker Boost, the newest feature on the ym360 Blog. Boost is a short, weekly piece of encouragement designed to, well, “boost” your spirits and encourage you as you minister to students.

We consider it yet another great opportunity to serve you and your ministry.

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.“–Ecclesiastes 3:1,11

Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived. Three books in the Old Testament highlight three different phases of his life:

  • Song of Songs: young adult
  • Proverbs: mid-life
  • Ecclesiastes: senior adult

As his life comes to a close, he comes to the conclusion that there is a season for everything in our lives. He also alludes to the fact that our lives have a past, a future, and a present. We can’t see how “today” fits into God’s big picture for our lives. But Solomon assures us that God has made everything beautiful in its time.

Most of us don’t live in the present but rather spend our time pondering or regretting the past, and worrying about the future. If we can’t change the past or determine the future, then what do we have left? We have today. And in “the now” we can minister, we can encourage, and we can act.

If you really want to see the beauty of God and what He can do, then be faithful to what He has called you to today.

Our prayer for you:
We pray that you would remember the power of today and the moments you have been granted to make a difference in Christ’s name. We pray that you would find encouragement and strength in your calling, and that you would act in a way that takes full advantage of the gift that today is.

Encouraged by today’s Youth Worker Boost? Don’t keep it a secret! Pass it along to a fellow youth worker or your adult volunteers. Share the love!

Huh! This is the third time this week that this theme has come up in my life. All three times from three totally different sources. Ya think God is trying to tell me something?

I took a dog phsycology puppy class with my husband when we first got our dogs. In that class they taught us that dogs have no recollection of the past, no worries about the future, they just live in the moment and simply react to what’s happening around them.

It’s kind of neat how that aligns with what the bible says about the past, present, and future. I know it sounds silly but whenever I start stressing over past mistakes or worrying about the future, I think of my dogs and how happy and content they are just living in the moment.

I’m still trying to get over the idea of a puppy psychology class . . . :) Seriously, it’s a great parallel, Vickie. Now, if we could all learn to actually apply it!

      • Vickie says:

HAHAHA! Well it definitely wasn’t your average puppy class, but it was neat! I felt like I was in an episode of “The Dog Whisperer” each time we went!
