Youth Worker BOOST: Celebrating “Behind The Scenes” Students
ym360 knows youth workers. We know what an incredibly rewarding, yet incredibly challenging job youth ministry can be. There are days when your spirits are sky-high, and there are days when you could use a bit of a “pick me up” from God’s Word . . .
That’s why we’re happy to introduce Youth Worker Boost, the newest feature on the ym360 Blog. Boost is a short, weekly piece of encouragement designed to, well, “boost” your spirits and encourage you as you minister to students.
We consider it yet another great opportunity to serve you and your ministry.
“Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.”–1 Corinthians 12:14-15; 18
There will always be those teenagers who just grab your attention.
A student who is outgoing, extremely talented, or maybe even a natural leader easily takes center stage in a youth group.
It’s very easy to be drawn to that type of student and to give them a lot of your attention. But what about the quiet, shy student who tends to sit in the back of the room and say very little in a group setting? If we’re not intentional, we can often pass these students over. Which is a big mistake.
The apostle Paul said the body of Christ is like a human body in that all parts, big and small, are important. When we see that shy student holding a poverty-stricken child on a mission trip, or befriending a lonely student at camp, we’re reminded that ALL students are important to God. It takes all kinds of people to carry out His purposes on this Earth. We all have a role to play. And though it can sometimes be easier to focus on those students who are always in the limelight, we need to remember to share our love and encouragement with all of our students.
Take some time this week to celebrate your “behind the scenes” students.
Our prayer for you:
We pray today that you would be a youth worker who shows compassion, concern, and encouragement to all of your students. We pray that you would take time to support and encourage those students who might sometimes fall through the cracks, but who are every bit as important to your youth ministry and God’s Kingdom.
Encouraged by today’s Youth Worker Boost? Don’t keep it a secret! Pass it along to a fellow youth worker or your adult volunteers. Share the love!
